The West Bend Theatre Company regrettably announces it has canceled the 2020 production of “A Christmas Carol.”
“It is with great sadness and disappointment the West Bend Theatre Company will be canceling the 2020 production of ‘A Christmas Carol.’ We had full intention of staging this year’s show in a unique setting in an effort to adhere to health and safety guidelines set during the COVID-19 pandemic. We were going to offer ‘A Christmas Carol’ as a virtual, video on-demand option. Meaning we would bring the tradition of ‘A Christmas Carol’ to our supporters in the comforts of their homes, but with their favorite local performers. We were on track to accomplish that goal with the hiring of a director and a crew, as well as successful auditions and casting. Rehearsals started in mid-September and were done through video conferencing. But, unfortunately, challenges that have presented itself since this process started have become too difficult to overcome. We’d like to assure the public there was no COVID-19 positive test or outbreak amongst the cast and crew as the reason for canceling ‘A Christmas Carol.’ As previously stated on our website and social media, the safety of our cast and crew is of utmost importance to us. Given the recent escalation of cases and surrounding uncertainty of COVID-19, we therefore felt it was the best course of action to proactively cancel this year’s show. Just to be 100 percent clear, to date no one involve with the West Bend Theatre Company’s 2020 production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ has tested positive for COVID-19. To reiterate, this cancelation is a proactive measure. The West Bend Theatre Company is truly appreciative of the time volunteered and the efforts made toward the 2020 production of ‘A Christmas Carol’ by the cast and crew. We will be offering the roles and duties of those selected for this year’s production to the same people for the 2021 production. We wish everyone a safe and healthy rest of 2020. We are confident we can get on the other side of this pandemic. When we do, we will be ready to perform for our supporters.”
In addition, the West Bend Theatre Company and its board of directors have decided an alteration to the 2021 schedule, with the exception of “A Christmas Carol” set for December 2021, is also needed. Details regarding the rest of our 2021 and 2022 schedules will be announced at a later date.
